Fused Glass

Glass that has been fired at high temperatures in a kiln is known as fused glass. The majority of modern fusing techniques involve stacking or layering thin sheets of glass in various colors to produce patterns or simple images. After that, the stack is placed inside the kiln and heated through a series of quick heating cycles and soaks until the individual pieces begin to fuse together. The stack will fuse more thoroughly the longer the kiln is kept at maximum temperature, softening and rounding the edges of the original design. The kiln temperature will be immediately reduced once the required effect has been obtained at the highest desirable temperature. The glass is then allowed to cool slowly over a set period of time, soaking in temperature ranges required for the annealing process. This eliminates uneven cooling and breaking while also ensuring a sturdy final product.
